The Order of the Engineer is an independent organization whose purpose is to foster a feeling of pride in and dedication to the engineering profession.   During the ceremony, each inductee takes a solemn obligation to uphold devotion to the standards and the dignity of the engineering profession. The obligation is a creed similar to the oath attributed to Hippocrates that is commonly taken by medical graduates and which sets forth an ethical code. The obligation likewise contains parts of the canon of ethics of major engineering societies. The Order promotes honesty and integrity, and recognizes that today’s engineers are dependent on their predecessors for their skills. A stainless steel ring is worn on the little finger of the working hand to symbolize acceptance of the obligation.

KSPE/NSPE members who wear the ring help raise awareness of the concepts of licensure and professionalism. This awareness is extended to recent engineering graduates, to non-KSPE/NSPE members, and to the general public. Promoting the Order of the Engineer provides an opportunity for NSPE and its state partners to grow our membership. A strong membership base helps promote and protect the engineering license. You are invited to join in this important promotion of the licensed engineer. Please sign up to take the oath to serve humanity by making the best use of earth’s precious wealth!

There is a $20 one time fee to sign up for Order of the Engineer to cover the cost of the ring.

No cancellations will be accepted after May 31 due to hotel guarantee deadlines.

Follow up the final conference session with a tour of the subject, the Baker Wetlands and Baker Wetlands Discovery Center! Learn more about their development and how the mitigation has helped the Wetlands grow to where they are at today.  One of the most diverse habitats in Kansas, the Baker Wetlands encompasses 927 acres of rich, natural wildlife. Students, faculty, and nature lovers have identified 278 species of birds, 98 other vertebrate species, and 487 plant species at the Wetlands. This exceptional environment gives the unique opportunity for increased exploration and education about biological and ecological processes.  Not only that, but HouseBeautiful magazine declared the Wetlands the most beautiful place in Kansas.

The Baker Wetlands Discovery Center’s eco-friendly building was opened in October 2015. It has a large space with panoramic views out over the boardwalk and exhibits on the importance of the wetlands and how they were restored and how they’re being taken care of now.

There is a $5.00 charge for the tour. A box lunch will be provided.

We will make every effort to meet your special needs. Please contact Alison Connell at the KSPE office at 785.233.2121 to request special accommodations.
